What is Student Support Services?

You  make many changes when starting college. A little extra attention and support can make this transition more successful. This program addresses your needs through personal and academic support. By providing a variety of educational and cultural opportunities, TRiO SSS supports our diverse student population at RRCC in the individual pursuit of academic and personal goals.

Who is Eligible?

Services are free to you as an enrolled student meeting one or more of the following criteria: · First generation: neither parent has earned a four-year college degree; · Documented physical or learning disability; · Low income based on federal financial aid guidelines. · Homeless youth or students in foster care. Program applications are available from TRiO Director LeAnne Hardy, Academic Advisor / Learning Skills /Disabilities Director Amy Amundsen; or Advisor Brad Krasaway.

How can TRiO SSS assist you?

Rainy River Community College students are committed to reaching their goals, and the SSS staff is committed to helping you attain your goals. We will help guide you in choosing a major and making career decisions, develop an individual academic plan, and select courses to study.      Regular meetings are held with you to review academic progress, to determine steps necessary for your success, and most importantly, to develop positive lifelong skills.

Academic Resources and Student Support

TRiO SSS works closely with The Learning Center and faculty to provide you professional and peer tutoring, supplemental instruction and subject specific study sessions.

Transfer Preparation Assistance

TRiO SSS provides you with information and assistance for the transfer process starting with Rainy River's Associate in Arts degree requirements, working with 4 year transfer institutions,  and walking you through your transfer preparations.

Cultural and Social Events, Workshops, Transition Course

TRiO SSS activities are free to you as a member! Services include academic guidance, counseling, tutoring, instruction, enrichment and a tuition-free one credit course in personal collegiate development.

Financial Literacy

TRiO SSS shows you how to increase basic economic decision making skills in the areas of personal income, money management, and financial planning for post secondary education. 

Disability Advocacy and Support

TRiO SSS works closely with the Disability Services Office to provide advocacy  for students in TRiO who have a documented disability. Ask any of the TRiO staff about using disability services and receiving accommodations.

Academic Success and Support Groups

TRiO SSS also offers you opportunities to meet other students for support, fellowship and        academic assistance. Let us know what your needs and concerns are.
